Today, Heidelberg Quarry operates a 150-acre quarry in the St. Galilee Community — and now seeks to expand by approximately 500 acres, while Sandersville Railroad proposes a rail spur designed to move more quarry materials out of the community. Together, these projects create a pathway for large-scale industrial expansion in a long-established residential area.
Residents already live with dust, blasting, noise, and heavy industrial traffic. Many believe this raises serious environmental justice concerns as a historic rural community bears the burden while economic benefits flow elsewhere.
This is not a fight against progress. It is a call for fairness — for modern oversight, environmental protection, and respect for the families who have called this place home for generations.
