who we are

Voices Against Corporate Land Theft

No Railroad in Our Community is a grassroots coalition fighting corporate land grabs and eminent domain abuse in rural Georgia. We stand to protect Black land ownership, environmental justice, and community legacy.

For more than four years, our fight in Sparta has grown—uniting landowners, neighbors, and justice seekers against eminent domain abuse.

We oppose the use of eminent domain by a private railroad seeking land for private profit. The 5th Amendment to the Constitution allows taking only for legitimate public use. Not corporate convenience.

Solidarity

We unite landowners, families, and supporters from all walks of life to protect what’s sacred—home, history, and community.

Empowerment

Through legal action, public awareness, and grassroots organizing, we equip our community with the tools to fight back and win.

Accountability

We challenge the abuse of eminent domain and demand that government agencies and corporations respect the rights of all citizens—equally and justly.

Shoals Road Community is a historic Black community rooted in faith, family, and generational resilience. At its center stands St. Galilee Baptist Church, founded in 1887, alongside the graves of parents, grandparents, and ancestors—many descendants of formerly enslaved people and sharecroppers who helped build Hancock County. Today, elders on fixed incomes still tend their gardens and care for their church and family land. Their children and grandchildren return home as veterans, educators, professionals, and business owners, committed to preserving the community’s heritage and dignity. Yet this community now faces industrial encroachment. A rail line proposed by Sandersville Railroad would run through residential backyards, bringing train noise, diesel emissions, vibration, and safety risks within feet of homes and gravesites. At the same time, a 150-acre quarry operated by Heidelberg Materials already operates inside the community, contributing blasting, dust, and heavy truck traffic. Shoals Road Community is not vacant land or industrial buffer space. It is a living, historic community. Decisions that place rail infrastructure and heavy industry within its boundaries raise serious concerns about fairness, environmental justice, and the protection of long-standing Black communities. The Shoals Road Community deserves respect, protection, and a voice.
